3 Unusual Restaurants in the Maldives

With the Maldives consisting of more sea than land, it isn't unusual that fish should feature prominently on Maldivian menus. However, with the Maldives being an important crossroads in the Indian Ocean, it's only natural that over time different cultures have left their mark on the islands' cuisine. If you are into dining with a difference, why not try one of these three unusual restaurants on your Maldives holidays

Ithaa Underwater Restaurant at the Conrad Maldives

Vegetarian Dishes

This restaurant is the only one of its kind in the world and sits fifteen feet below the waves of the Indian Ocean, surrounded on all sides by a coral reef. Diners are rewarded with 270 degree views of the underwater area, while rays and angel fish drift serenely past. Ithaa is super exclusive and only has room for fourteen people at a time. However, when Tom Cruise took Katie Holmes there for their honeymoon, he made sure that he had booked out the entire restaurant so that the couple could enjoy Maldivian cuisine with no interruptions. You may be forgiven for assuming that the food takes a back-seat to the views in Ithaa, but you would be completely wrong. The contemporary cuisine is a mixture of Western and Maldivian dishes, with all diners presented with a fresh pearl at the end of their meal.

24 Degrees at the Taj Exotica

With the Maldives located in the midst of the Indian Ocean, you can imagine that the curry dishes would be particularly good. This is certainly true, and if curry is your thing, then make sure you head to 24 Degrees on your Maldives holiday. The restaurant is located in the luxurious Maldives resort of Taj Exotica and is entirely open-air. It opens early for breakfast, and is open until late at night, so you can dine underneath the starry skies. The traditional breakfast dishes it serves are notorious throughout the island, but it is the evening curry dishes that attract visitors from far and wide. The restaurant has plenty of vegetarian dishes, and the traditional Maldivian vegetable curry is particularly noteworthy. The deserts are also to-die for, and we highly recommend trying the passion fruit coulis on your Maldives holiday.

The Ocean Pavilion

If you want your Maldives holiday to be particularly romantic, you can arrange a meal for two at the Ocean Pavilion. The Pavilion is a stand alone wooden deck in the middle of the Indian Ocean and located a mile off-shore. The deck is only reachable by boat and if you decide that you want to treat a loved one to this experience, then staff will sail you to the venue by boat and leave you with a mobile phone, so that you can call them when you wish to be collected. Due to the location, all the food served is chilled - lobster, caviar and chilled champagne all feature on the set menu. The Pavilion is decorated with comfortable cushions, candles, lanterns and flowers which all serve to make the venue that little more romantic.

Planning a Wedding Reception Quickly

If you do not have a year or even six months to go about planning a wedding reception, you have to do so quickly. There are a lot of things that go into a reception, and if you are getting married with only a little time to plan, you may feel overwhelmed. There are some steps you can take to get things done quickly, and some things you should find someone to do for you so that you are not bogged down with details and have no hope of getting it all done. Find a trusted few, and start getting things into motion as soon as you can.

Think about the most important parts of planning a wedding reception so that you know what means the most to you and what you want to handle on your own. This may be food and menu, as well as the choice for band or music. These are things that are going to be memorable for guests, so you may very well want to take them on all by yourself, or with the help of your finance. Look up options, go taste testing if you can, and make a choice that tastes good, but that also has mass appeal. You probably don't have time to adjust the menu later for picky eaters. Remember, include a few vegetarian dishes, as there are always a few people in any party that need them.

After you have chosen the most important parts of your reception that you know you want to handle yourself, think about how much time you have (realistically) to take care of these things. If you think you are going to have more time, you can then pick other things that you know you want to choose on your own. You want to choose your own d閏or theme, but perhaps it is important to you to choose each item carefully. On the other hand, perhaps you have a friend that is good at this and you know you can trust her to do well with planning a wedding reception layout that you will love.

Next, find the parts of planning a wedding reception that you know you can leave up to your fiance. They can order personalized items for you by going online and using the wording or dates that you have given them. This could be napkins, keepsakes, and favors. They can also do other tasks that you think they can handle well. If you need to be in control, make a detailed list with dates by when these need to be done, and then look every day to see what they have checked off. It will help you keep your sanity when planning something so important so quickly.

Have friends and family help you with things that they may know about when thinking about planning a wedding reception. Perhaps they can put together a decent seating chart for you, if you are assigning seats, that you can finish and tweak when they are done. They can also help with a music play list for your DJ, if you are choosing one, and perhaps they can work out how to set up the hall so that everything runs smoothly. It would be great to handle of this on your own, but some brides with a year to plan get stressed for time. Get help where you can and remember that you are getting married to the love of your life, the rest is just cake, so to speak.

However, they just not aware of those dishes are meatless. In fact the vegetarian menus are very flexible.

Combinations of food is very important to add zest and contrast to a meal. If you know what foods to serve together, it will make the dishes more delicious and hearty. For example, vegetarian entree is similar to regular non vegetarian meal. Soups, breads and salads are normally served together; while pasta is normally served with casserole.

Vegetarian Chef Salad

This recipe provides you with loads of fresh veggies to boost your daily fresh fruit and vegetable intake. And that's not to mention being packed with protein, so it functions as a hearty meal that will give you lots of mileage.

Plus, the tangy flavor of organic produce, as compared to conventional produce, shines through. Just ask any gourmet chef whether he or she prefers conventional or organic produce--they say organic, for flavor, every time.

Ingredients:

Two hard-boiled organic or local eggs (optional if you're vegan or too impatient)

Organic bacon bits alternative

2 organic hearts of romaine

Organic shredded cheese or cheese alternative (your choice; either yellow or orange cheeses are great)

2 vegetarian breaded chicken patties

2 organic tomatoes

1 organic red pepper

Organic croutons

Bring a small saucepan of water to a boil. Meanwhile, thoroughly rinse romaine hearts, then pat them dry with a towel. Tear off any brown areas to compost them, then bunch the romaine with your hand and cut it into horizontal slices, working from the tip to the butt.

Repeat for second heart of romaine. Compost the butts. Dice tomatoes and red peppers. Compost the tomato core and red pepper cap and innards. While you're chopping, reflect upon a quote from Thich Nhat Hanh: "We have to eat happy eggs from happy chickens."

When the water boils, gently drop in eggs. Boil for three minutes or until they're hard-boiled. Meanwhile, spread the sliced romaine hearts evenly between two plates. (This serves two, in case you haven't already guessed.)

Cook the vegetarian chicken patties according to package directions, either in the microwave if you're super hungry and need to eat soon, or in the oven if you want them to be more crunchy. (Of course, if you cook them in the oven, make that the first step before boiling the eggs.)

Cut the patties into slices when they're done, then arrange the slices on each plate of romaine.

Rinse the eggs under cold water until they're cool enough to handle. Chop the eggs, or use an egg slicer and pretend it's your least favorite politician's head.

Sprinkle organic bacon bits alternative, cheese or cheese alternative, red peppers, tomatoes and croutons evenly onto each salad. Actually, don't do it evenly--sneak just a few more goodies onto your salad.

You can use pre-packaged organic croutons, or you may be able to find crunchy organic or local baguette chips that you can crumble onto the salad. And if you're in a pinch, you can simply crumble some organic crackers or tortilla chips that you may already have on hand.

The organic produce you use in this hearty salad is as limitless as your imagination. You can also try diced cucumber, shredded carrots, sugar snap peas--the list goes on and on.

This organic salad is really great with organic thousand island dressing. Or try mixing organic ranch and organic French dressing! Chow down!
