Low Fat Vegetarian Cooking - 10 Ways To Cook Healthy Dishes

We always thought that substituting eggs and meats, from the diet is enough. Well, it only makes the food vegetarian. In order to turn to low fat diet in the vegetarian regime, here are some techniques & tips. Try these and you shall land up to the real health diet.

1. Replace animal fats with vegetable oils.

Vegetarian Dishes

Vegetable oils, although being fats like all other oils contain, what we medically call as the 'good fats.' Butter consists of animal fats. Use vegetable oils instead for frying & sautéing.

2. Replace animal based stocks with vegetarian choices.

Try using vegetable stock, wine or broth for the sauces, soups & stews. Often, people use animal based stocks in these foods.

3. Relish your rice.

Rice can become more tasteful and interesting with a simple trick. Sauté olive oil with some garlic paste for two minutes. Now add rice & sauté until it becomes golden brown. Further try adding vegetable stock to enhance the flavor. Also, do not miss to follow the directions for cooking on the package.

4. Use fresh ingredients.

It is always healthy to have fresh food, so try using all fresh ingredients in the food.

5. Add life to Wilted Lettuce.

Try pouring some lemon juice along with cold water to soak lettuce and leave it unperturbed for at least an hour. This would add a new zing to the wilted lettuce.

6. Balancing the salt and sugar.

i. Add pieces raw potatoes to the stew or soup in case it has become salty. After cooking discard the potatoes. They would absorb all the extra salt.
ii. Add salt to rectify the soup or stew that is too sweet.
iii. Add cider vinegar in order to nullify the unwanted sweetness of a vegetable or main dish.

7. Use fork for stirring the vegetables.

At times stirring potatoes, zucchini, squash or carrots spoils the dish as they become too mushy. Use a fork to stir them and get rid of the problem.

8. Thickening the sauces.

The following are some dilutes, you can add to varied sauces to make them thick:
i. Corn starch mixed with cold water. The ratio is one to one.
ii. Brown rice flour. For every half cup liquid add one & two third teaspoon.
iii. Potato starch or flour. For each half cup liquid add two third teaspoons.
iv. Tapioca flour. The ratio is one to one.
v. Ground nuts.

9. Read the recipe in full.

In order to save time, read the new recipe new completely. This would help you know all the ingredients before hand and re-assure that everything necessary is handy enough.

10. Replace sugar with brown rice syrup.

Substitute brown rice syrup in place of honey, sugar or other sweeteners. One & a quarter cup of the syrup for each cup of sugar. Also, leave off 1 quarter cup liquid from the recipe.
