Experience New Flavors and Health Benefits With Japanese Vegetarian Cookery

From the time when their culture first developed, the Japanese have survived with very little desire or ability to raise animals for food. The island nation's lack of space for grazing animals has led to a food culture that depends heavily on sea-farmed plants, efficiently raised agricultural crops, and vegetable-based proteins - which makes Japan a fantastic source for well-balanced vegetarian cuisine - with many side effects that you might find surprising!

While most cultures base their diets on meat and other animal products such as cheese, milk, and thickeners made from bone, the Japanese have developed plant-based "substitutes". Soybeans provide tofu, soy milk, and sweets; seaweeds thicken and add a salty-meaty flavor to almost any dish, and variety is assured with different types of vegetables that we as outsiders view as almost frightening in their color and shape diversity! The advantages to this take on a balanced diet are many:

1. The lower fat content in Japanese vegetarian cookery means a quick and tasty way to lose weight.

The banes of our dietary existence in the modern world are cholesterol, saturated fat, and the hormones and antibiotics injected into food animals that lead to humans getting diseases and metabolic disorders we were never meant to be susceptible to. Considering that vegetation does not need medical acre, and cholesterol and saturated fats can really only be ingested by eating animal-based foods, rapid and healthy weight loss can be achieved with a balanced vegetarian diet containing tasty foods commonly found in Eastern cuisine, such as soy sauce, tofu, different root and leafy vegetables, and seaweed.

2. Avoiding meat and meat products means spending less per shopping trip than the average carnivore.

The next time you go to the supermarket or spend the day food shopping, sit down when you get home and analyze your receipts. It is almost guaranteed that the majority of your money went towards feeding, housing, fattening, doctoring, transporting, and processing animal-based foods like cheese and cheese products, milk, meat, dairy-based sweets, and eggs. These prices keep going up as the cost of land, feed, and medical care for the animals rise. A vegetarian diet allows you to cut these costs out of your food budget entirely - or helps you appreciate all the work that goes into these foods when you DO buy them.

3. The variety of foods simply and easily made from home with this style of cooking mean less money spent on eating out.

How many times has your family gone out to eat out of sheer boredom or impatience? Buy yourself a steamer and take your family on a shopping and cooking adventure- ask at your nearest health food store where the Asian markets are. The educational benefits (and entertainment value - watch as your kids or partner-in-crime grow wide-eyed!) will make dining in a new experience for everyone.

You don't have to change your entire lifestyle immediately, but incorporating a few Japanese vegetarian meals at a time will definitely improve your life.

A Cultural Shock and Memorable Experience

Sanjay Gupta was a bright student. He wanted to fulfill his dreams of reaching western shores for prosperity and success. He grew in a middle class family of orthodox culture and traditions. His superstitious believes and outlook was predominantly influencing his personality. Traditionally he grew in such environments and becomes introverting and sissy. Sanjay was one of them. His burning desire for studying in foreign universities was generating mixed feelings. The feeling of joy and apprehension was balancing equally. The joint family background and close knitted family ties have a tremendous impact on him. He perused his dreams very methodically.

He secured admission in the university of his choice. Subsequently, he was granted a visa. The preparations were almost completed. Later, the departure date was fixed. All the relatives and friends were regularly visiting him. Every individual and other family member was advising him; what he should do and what he avoids. Those who were advising him have been never travelled outside their own town. Some elder people knew that it was the typical oriental thinking. Here everybody thought to be expert in his own way. Finally, prior to departure the grandma has cautioned him about women and non-vegetarian dishes in general.

Vegetarian Dishes

He was briefed about travelling etiquettes and discipline. He was also given a demonstration of travelling in a plane and conducting overseas during his stay. He was mentally prepared to undertake the journey. The day has arrived and he commenced his journey. At the airport scores of relatives and friends came to bid adieu to him. He bid farewell to all and boarded the aircraft. His theoretical lessons met with a jolt at the commencement of his journey. He found it hard to adjust in the small seats in economy class. In addition, the food was not was he used to be. Furthermore, eating with fork and knife was an experience by itself. The wash room syndrome made him dumbfounded. He was praying for the long journey to end as fast as possible. At last his prayers were answered, and he landed at the destination airport for the second shock at his next step of journey.

At the immigration, the conversation between immigration officer and Sanjay was an episode of confusion and chaos. The police officer was asking a question in English and Sanjay was replying in English. The police officer was asking it to be translated into English. Sanjay's conversational mitigation has finally ended among laughter and enjoyment by all. He collected his baggage and proceeded to exit gate. He was received by the student coordinator, and they drove him to university campus.

He was introduced to other students, and he became friendly with all of them. It was his simplicity, and small town culture that made him a focal point of attraction. He gradually learnt the cultural etiquettes and showed them oriental traditions and values. He spoke regularly with his family members and apprises them the situations and expressed his happiness.

He completed his studies and prepared to return home to take charge of his ancestral business. He was feeling sad to leave a friendly group and good friends. He was given a warm send off and everybody accompanied him to the airport to bid adieu. He thanked all of them for their kindness and guidance in achieving desired results. He arrived home to a memorable reception. He settled down and sends a gift to the university. It was a Taj Mahal; A memento. It was a symbol of immortal love. He sent it in return for the knowledge imparted to him with all the love and affection. He also extended an open invitation to all, to visit him and to be his guest.

Best Vegetarian Dishes - My Experience With Vegetarian Dining

It seems the more I listen to the news and read the papers, the more I start hearing about tainted or spoiled meat getting into our food supplies. One has to wonder just how safe our meats are, especially with some of the hormones they are putting in them. I looked for an option, and decided to look into cooking some healthy vegetarian dishes for a change.

Now mind you, this wasn't an all out decision to become a vegetarian, as some of my prior experiences with vegetarian dining were quite distressing. But this time I decided it would be different, and I would do some research prior to running up the grocery tab.

Vegetarian Dishes

Initially I thought that going to my local library would provide all the resources I would need in regards to vegetarian recipes and cooking, but then I thought I would go one step further. Why not visit a vegetarian restaurant! Easier said then done, as it took hours of looking through the yellow pages along with surfing the web, before I was able to locate some sources in close proximity.

The first restaurant sounded right on target, "Best Vegetarian". I thought, "How could I go wrong with that?" Well unfortunately the name didn't live up to the food. It was a quiet Wednesday night when I visited, so waiting for a table was not an issue. The waiter was quite polite, and the menu was pages in length. As I browsed through some of the entrees, my eyes came to rest on "vegetable lasagna". Yes, just what I was in the mood for.

The meal arrived quite quickly, (I should have taken this as a clue), and it actually looked quite tempting. Unfortunately as I dug in, my fork seemed to get stuck in this thick "goo" that was similar to mending putty. The vegetables were slightly cooked, if not raw, and the sauce was definitely right out of a jar. Soon after, I realized that this was nothing more then a "frozen entree", that was probably purchased at a local store. Who said vegetarian dishes had to be fresh.

Well anyway I left quite discouraged, but determined to do more research on vegan dining, and cooking. This time I thought I might go the "library" route, and see if I could find some great vegetarian recipe books. After all, they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Vegetarian - My experience with the vegetarian chili

Vegetarian food is not as easy as some are. Among the freshest vegetables and produce for the local market, peeling and washing each well, takes time and effort. This article is my experience with vegetarian chili, a really good recipe if you have some time.

I know what many of you may think, Vegetarian Chili, it's terrible this is. "I agree with you, probably a few years ago,my chili dish was then loaded with fresh bacon and ribs. Throw in a beer can and now you were really cooking. Unfortunately, only one of these recipes, which have contributed to my weight gain forty pounds, was to change so urgently needed.

We speak of my love again, vegetarian cooking, I decided to master my version of chili without meat. What I really need is an adequate substitute for fat that cola, which was so fulltastefully. Now the bacon was not as bad as the wonderful pieces of imitation bacon use, but what could I do to the taste of fat.

Since the fat of meat is primarily an oil and an unhealthy way in which good, I thought of a substitute for natural fats in canola oil tasty meat. How low in saturated fat and rich in mono saturated fatty acids, has its health benefits as well. But the real advantage is the taste. He's only a taste of food that has really helpedlong time.

My recent experience with vegetarian dishes of this type usually produces a lot of frustration because it is so difficult to imitate some of the flavors of meat, even though their health risks. Then I pressed further in this quest for a great chili, and decided to select hours vegetables. A mix of fresh peppers, mushrooms, onions, garlic, zucchini, tomatoes, basil, tomatoes, beans and vegetable broth I rolled and I took the recent acquisition Cooker "Slow"for this particular recipe.

The chili powder I used was a smoky flavor, mix and I added a small amount of cayenne to give it some kick. I like red beans, cans then drained. For about five hours to cook down. I steamed a bit 'of brown rice, and poured the concoction on top.

My experience with the vegetarian chili was not without drama, when friends came to enjoy this pleasure. Unfortunately, the answer was a bit 'mixedthere were more complaints then compliments. I was wrong with the vegetable stock, because it was small and kind of salt flat in taste. Well, at least in the back of the drawing board. At least I have my fiber for the day.
